Position Summary and Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Equal Opportunity/Title IX Coordinator, this position is responsible for managing the day-to-day responsibilities associated with Vassar College's civil rights investigations, and institutional responses to reported protected class based discrimination and harassment and sexual misconduct. This position is also responsible for managing the College's compliance with the Clery Act and is the Clery Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities:
  • Working with the Title IX Coordinator to develop and review processes, responses and policies for consistency with federal and state laws and including ADA §504 and §508, Titles IV, VI, VII & IX, the Clery Act, New York State Education Law Article 129-B, NCAA Board of Governors Policy on Campus Sexual Violence, etc., with a particular emphasis on investigating alleged cases of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and intimate partner violence.
  • Managing and facilitating formal and informal resolution processes for student and employee complaints of all protected-class-based discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. In the case of formal investigations this includes:
    • Developing an investigatory plan for each complaint;
    • Informing parties and witnesses about the investigatory process and of all available resources on campus and in the surrounding community;
    • Interviewing the complainant, respondent, and potential witnesses;
    • Gathering and securing relevant documentary and testimonial evidence;
    • Keeping accurate and thorough records and notes of investigatory process;
    • Developing comprehensive reports for further action;
    • Providing ongoing updates to the Director of Equal Opportunity/Title IX Officer and various support areas;
    • Continuously identifying and integrating promising practices in the Title IX and EEO investigation arena into knowledge base and practices;
    • Collaborating with on-and off-campus resources, support services, and law enforcement in resolving complaints;

  • Developing and conducting tailored training for students and employees on policy, prevention, response, and other issues related to nondiscrimination, inclusion, and equity;
  • Participating in data collection and reporting, in compliance with state and federal law and as needed to inform institutional responses/initiatives;
  • Participating in campus initiatives, collaborations, and committees, designed to advance the College's commitment to nondiscrimination, inclusion, and equity;
  • Assessing, managing, and facilitating, the College's compliance with the Clery Act by:
    • Leading relevant campus partners in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, reporting and alert systems;
    • Tracking corrective actions to completion;
    • Coordinating training key stakeholders on Clery Act requirements;
    • Ensuring the completion, submission, and circulation of the annual crime statistics and security reports;

  • Actively striving to foster and maintain a climate that is supportive and respectful of difference;
  • Attending annual Title IX investigation trainings and professional development conferences;
  • Assisting the Title IX Officer in carrying out other Title IX/VAWA response and prevention responsibilities for the college. These may include, but are not limited to: community outreach, training, data collection, and trend analysis.

This position is full-time for the full-year, including work on evenings and weekends as necessary.

Qualifications
Qualifications: Advanced degree beyond Bachelors' degree required. Title IX training certification preferred. Two to three years related experience preferred. Superior judgment and the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential communications. Knowledge of complexities surrounding sexual assault, sexual harassment, and equal opportunity cases in a college setting. Experience handling sensitive and confidential cases or material. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to remain neutral. Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving, and interviewing/investigation techniques. Exceptional critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate the resolution of difficult situations, including the ability to handle issues of complexity and extreme sensitivity. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse student population with cultural competence and sensitivity. Must be flexible, including the ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Familiarity with campus dynamics and civil rights law and regulations is highly desirable.
