The Department of Music seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position.

Position will be responsible for teaching studio trumpet; working with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra as principal trumpet; and working with the Faculty Jazz Combo. Some teaching and work in the jazz area is required for this position.

Required Qualifications

A completed doctorate degree in trumpet performance at the time of hire. Demonstrated experience teaching college-level applied trumpet, evidence of accomplishment as a professional performer and college teaching experience in both classical and jazz areas.

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship.

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.

Position Requires a Criminal Background Check.

Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).

Essential Duties of the Position

The duties below reflect 90% of the employee's responsibilities. There is an additional 10% reserved for professional development and any other duties that may be assigned.

Job Duty

Teach applied trumpet and perform in both classical and jazz settings. Perform as principal trumpet with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra.
