Description

Provide quality, nurturing child care and early educationfor a group of diverse young children in a child care center.  This position plans and implementsdevelopmentally appropriate curriculum activities for young children.  This position also exists to ensurecompliance with State licensing requirements.

Current open position is in the Toddler 2 classroom,working with children ages 2-3 years of age.  Thisposition may be assigned or reassigned to any class group at the FamilyDevelopment Center (FDC).  The FDC hoursof operation are from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and this position works a shiftwithin the hours of 6:45am and 6:15pm, that may rotate or change asneeded.  On occasion work schedules mayshift to include evening and weekend hours for staff meetings, training, orschool events.


Job Duties:


Providesdevelopmentally appropriate care and education for a group of young children byimplementing the early childhood philosophy and teaching strategies defined inthe FDC policies, procedures, and curriculum framework, and the developmentallyappropriate guidelines of the National Association for the Education of YoungChildren (NAEYC) and National Early Childhood Program Accreditation(NECPA).  Adheres to all State licensingrequirements of care and education when implementing the program.  Participates in and supervises classroom mealservice to ensure compliance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Programrequirements.

Designsand documents developmentally appropriate lesson plans that adhere to thestandards defined in the FDC policies, procedures, and curriculum framework;the developmentally appropriate guidelines of the NAEYC, National EarlyChildhood Program Accreditation (NECPA); and State child care regulations.

Designsand maintains a safe, sanitary, orderly, and developmentally appropriateenvironment.  Ensures compliance withhealth and safety standards set forth by the Department of Human Services, theDepartment of Health, local fire department, and other regulatory agencies.

Observes,assesses and documents children’s behavior and development.  Completes formal written assessments for eachchild twice a year.  Communicateseffectively with parents regarding their children’s experiences at the FDC andtheir children’s growth and development, through frequent verbal and writtencommunications, and by conducting formal parent conferences each semester.

Developsand maintains effective working relationships with parents, children, staff,and community by communicating and collaborating with others, demonstratingwillingness to give and receive constructive feedback resolving issues andproblems as they arise, and contributing to positive morale and motivation.

Completesrequired paperwork in a timely manner including employee file requirements,classroom ratio checks, incident reports, daily care sheets, food programrecords, parent newsletters, classroom orders, self-evaluations and any and allpaperwork deemed necessary for proper job performance.

Attendsstaff meetings, workshops, and conferences; facilitates classroom teammeetings; participates in FDC parent/teacher activities and events.  Completes the annual training hours requiredby State Child Care Regulations and NECPA. Maintains Colorado Early Childhood Teacher qualification.


Job Competencies:


Knowledgeof Developmentally Appropriate Practices; licensing requirements; curriculumplanning and children’s assessments. Good written and oral communication skills.  Ability to manage groups of children andsupervise college students.


Thisposition has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under theFair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).


Salary:  $31,000

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:


  • Applicants must meet the State of Colorado Child Care licensing requirements as well as the NECPA Accreditation requirements listed below:
  • A.  EarlyChildhood Teacher

    An earlychildhood teacher, assigned responsibility for a single group of children andworking under the supervision of a director, must be at least 21 years of ageand must meet one the followingqualifications;

    a.     A Bachelor’s degree from a regionallyaccredited college or university. The major area of study for each Bachelor’sdegree shall be in one of the following areas:

    EarlyChildhood Education; Elementary Education; Special Education; Family and ChildDevelopment; Child Psychology.

    b.     A Bachelor’s degree from a regionallyaccredited college or university with a major area of study in any area otherthan those listed above in Section A, and must have completed fourthree-semester hour early childhood education college courses with one coursebeing either introduction to early childhood education or guidance strategies,and at least one year (1820 hours) of verified satisfactory experience.**

    c.     A2-year Associates degree in early childhood education from a regionallyaccredited college or university, which must include at least twothree-semester hour early childhood education courses, one of which must beeither introduction to childhood education or guidance strategies; and at leastone year (1820 hours) of verified satisfactory experience.**

    d.    Completionof four three-semester hour college courses in early childhood education. Oneof the three semester hour courses must be either introduction to earlychildhood education or guidance strategies plus one year (1820 hours) ofverified satisfactory experience in the care and supervision of four or morechildren five years of age or younger who are not related to the individual. **Courses must be completed at a regionally accredited two-year, four year, orgraduate level college or university.

    e.    Completionof two three-semester hour college courses in early childhood education. One ofthe three semester hour courses must be either introduction to early childhoodeducation or guidance strategies plus 3640 hours of verified satisfactoryexperience in the care and supervision of four or more children five years ofage or younger who are not related to the individual. **Courses must becompleted at a regionally accredited two-year, four year, or graduate levelcollege or university.

    2.   Atleast two years of verified satisfactory experience responsible for the careand supervision of four or more children five years of age, or younger, who arenot related to the individual, with at least one of those years as a Teacher orLead Teacher.**

     

    3.   Allstaff are required to meet and maintain minimum qualifications for thisposition as defined by Colorado Department of Human Services and the Center’sAccrediting Agency.

     

    **Note: Verified satisfactory experience must be an employer letter documentingthe care and supervision of four or more children five years of age, oryounger, who are not related to the individual. Satisfactory experienceincludes working as a teacher or lead teacher in a childcare center orpreschool. All college course grades towards early childhood teacherqualifications must be a “C” or better.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Training in Conscious Discipline.
    • One year of supervisory experience.
    • Six months of employment in a college or university childcare center or preschool.
    • Two years of verified satisfactory experience as a Teacher or Lead Teacher.
