Duties

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is a production-oriented position focused primarily on developing digital, print, and multimedia communications and marketing material. Under direction of University leadership, the Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the University’s social media presence and overarching communications needs. The individual will serve as the official University photographer and videographer, utilizing appropriate tools to produce content that aligns with strategic goals and initiatives. The Coordinator will work closely and collaboratively with the entire department staff, utilizing creative design and project management skills to ensure projects are completed successfully.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Develop and produce editorial content and graphic design elements for use in digital and print communications.
•Manage, improve, and grow the University’s social media presence, incorporating all initiatives and content into social strategies to increase engagement.
•Coordinate University digital communications to produce engaging, accurate, and visually appealing emails, newsletters, fundraising appeals, campus messages, automated messages, event invitations, and other communications material.
•Coordinate the University’s communications-related enrollment and development revenue generation efforts.
•Assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy for capital campaign fundraising initiatives.
•Develop key messaging, as well as unique and ongoing communications strategies.
•Document and archive the University’s communications activities; track and evaluate the effectiveness of efforts using web analytics and other measurement tools.
•Serve as the University’s official photographer, visually documenting all University events and important news to incorporate within various communications outlets.
•Coordinate University video projects – ensure video conceptualization, filming, editing, and other production efforts are completed successfully and align with University brand identity.
•Assist in designing and maintaining architecture, navigational structure, user interface, visual design, and graphics of University website.
•Proactively research and implement industry standards and best practices.
•Assist in media planning, buying, placement, and reporting for advertising efforts.
•Assist in the organization and execution of University events, fundraisers, and internal/external activities.
•Support University relations with all stakeholders, media, vendors, etc.
•Work with the University’s Office of Publications to assist with the creation and production of appropriate promotional materials.
•Contribute to the overall success of the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
•Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism, or a related field
•Minimum of two-year’s experience in marketing, communications, public relations, and/or advertising; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the position
•Experience coordinating digital marketing strategies and managing social media marketing efforts through knowledge of best practices
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat Professional
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic use of office equipment
•Strong photography and videography skills
•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; teamwork mentality
•Ability to work with a variety of constituents, including outside vendors
•Ability to oversee and manage numerous projects and meet strict deadlines
•Ability to multi-task with exceptional organizational skills
•Excellent proofreader and careful attention to detail
•Ability to work flexible hours – because the responsibilities of this position may require attendance at various events and meetings, the daily schedule may vary and include nights and weekends

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Presently, over 3,100 students have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty. Approximately 80% of the students are enrolled in at least one online course. The typical student is a working adult who commutes. Recently, the University was featured in the 2015 Best Value Online College Rankings by OnlineU.org for four online programs including computer science, accounting, education and human resources. The University offers undergraduate degree programs in Liberal Arts, Teacher Preparation, and Business.
