Job Details

Job Title: Admissions Counselor/Recruiter  

Reports To: Associate Director of Admissions 

Status: Exempt, Full Time   

  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

  

1. Develop in-depth knowledge about the College and its academic and extracurricular programs and articulate these programs in a manner consistent with the College's strategic plan to prospective students, their families, guidance counselors & the community.  

2. Recruit prospective students by conducting high school visits and attending college fairs in selected territory; cultivate selected territory by developing relationships with guidance and college counselors and by increasing application and deposit activity; provide regular territory analysis and feedback.  

3. Assist with the daily operations of the Office of Admissions through daily admissions presentations, interviews, on/off campus admission events, Open Houses and Accepted Student Receptions as well as email, social media and phone call campaigns.  

4. Meet departmental goals for inquiries, applications, admitted and enrolled students through the completion, review and conversion of applications for designated territory. 

5. Work collaboratively with colleagues in financial aid, advising, registrar and other campus offices to ensure a consistent and smooth transition from applicant to student.  

6. Maintain and update files including travel and student records. 

7. Perform other duties as required to meet organizational needs and goals. 

  

Requirements 

1. A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of six-to-twelve months experience in recruitment, public relations, marketing or a related field, preferably in a college or university setting. 

2. Ability to articulate the benefits of a liberal arts education in the context of the Dominican and Catholic intellectual traditions. 

3. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/communications skills. 

4. Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty and staff. 

5. Effective time management, strong organizational abilities, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision.  

6. Strong customer service skills. 

7. Must have experience working with office equipment and technology (Word, PowerPoint, etc.). 

8. Candidates must be willing to travel extensively. Must have some familiarity with making online travel arrangements. 

9. Strong work ethic with a high degree of professionalism. 

10. A valid driver’s license.  

11. Regular evening and weekend work are required. 

Working Conditions: Multi-tasked, goal-and deadline-driven environment. Overnight travel anywhere in the United States, evening and some weekend hours will be required throughout the year. Extensive sitting, walking, and lifting may be required as well.

Location. Newburgh, New York. The Mount is conveniently located in the Mid-Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and New York's capital city, Albany. The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
