DescriptionTheDepartment of Mathematics at Boise State University invites applications for atenure-track position in computational applied statistics or mathematics at therank of assistant professor starting in fall 2020.  Successful candidates will contribute toteaching and research at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Mathematics isa lead department in the interdisciplinary PhD in Computing at Boise State,which has emphases in Computational Science and Engineering, Computer Science,Cybersecurity, and Data Science.  Themathematics department also leads efforts in the College of Arts and Sciencesto provide a focused path for data science professionals along with options forall majors to develop data science skills. 

 Minimumqualifications:  (i) PhD in Statistics,Mathematics or related field and (ii) Strong research potential in statisticalcomputing, optimization, numerical linear algebra or related field withconnections to data-driven applications, as evidenced by peer-reviewedpublications.

 Expectationsof the position:  (i) Submit competitiveproposals for external research funding, (ii) Supervise undergraduate seniortheses, MS theses in mathematics and PhD dissertations in the Computing program,(iii) Assist in the continued development of a vibrant student communityengaged in the computational, statistical, and mathematical sciences, (iv)Contribute meaningfully to appropriate professional and institutional service,and (v) Desire to deepen the department’s outreach activities, such aseducational programs involving schools and the public, or collaboration withindustry.

 Preferredqualifications: (i) Post-PhD research experience, (ii) Experience withdeveloping interdisciplinary projects in other fields represented at BoiseState University and the Boise regional area, and (iii) Experience in course development.
