Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Manager of Information Security and Compliance, this position carries out all phases of information systems/networks security programs that involve the protection of servers and end-points. Conducts regular audits to ensure that systems are being appropriately secured, and information systems security policies and procedures are being implemented as required. Architects, develops, tests, and operates sophisticated systems patching and currency assurance tools. Safeguards systems against vulnerabilities that are manifest through unsupported and unpatched operating systems and software. Researches, evaluates, tests, recommends, communicates and implements new security software or devices. Implements, enforces, communicates and develops security plans in the support of a comprehensive and continuous systems and software patching program. Conducts investigations of computer security violations and incidents, reporting as necessary to management. Responds to queries and requests for computer security information and reports. Responsible for the programmatic design and maintenance of requisite technology and processes.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Build partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure the design and use of programs and applications are compliant with UMass policies and relevant standards and regulations
  • Provide detailed reporting to management regarding current and ongoing initiatives, showing compliance with key performance indicators
  • Collaborate with other IT groups to ensure an optimal and secure endpoint and server management environment
  • Provide education to the user/customer community around security best practices and the proper use of endpoint and server management solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate non-technical and technical matters effectively, both verbal and written
  • Maintain data security and confidentiality in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, current literature, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in enterprise end-point computing
  • Evaluate and select new security solutions for review and adoption
  • Architect and operationalize an enterprise deployment of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • Support and maintain Microsoft SCCM administration and implement enhancements that will improve the reliability, maintainability, and performance of the systems
  • Define and manage the Endpoint and Server Patching and Currency Program
  • Create and manage boundary groups across one or more distribution points
  • Monitor patch releases and develop patch installation strategies for servers and clients
  • Create task sequence for Windows 10 migration and plan and deploy on premise and cloud distribution points
  • Design and plan complex hardware deployments, software upgrades, and significant operational initiatives, including migrations of end-user workstations from legacy Windows versions to Windows 10
  • Monitors faults, performance, and capacity issues; prepares remediation reports and documentation
  • Conducts gap analyses as needed, and provides results and recommendations to senior management for review
  • Create, modify, and produce custom reporting as needed
  • Communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions in a professional and concise manner
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with established patching policies and recognized security frameworks & baselines (i.e. CIS, NIST, Microsoft)
  • Document and maintain relevant procedures for supporting security management solutions
  • Responsible for escalated support for security management issues
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Security or other relevant concentration or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in Information Technology or Information Security in a support role or equivalent experience building, supporting and maintaining enterprise information technology solutions 
  • Three (3) years troubleshooting and administering Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • Experience in process automation, systems management, customized script writing (VBScript, PowerShell, Batch File, or similar)
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of Microsoft Active Directory environment (GPO, Profiles, Login Scripts)
  • Proficiency in application and package creation and deployments
  • Possess deep understanding of network technologies
  • Proficiency troubleshooting SCCM client reporting issues leveraging SCCM client logs
  • Experience with maintaining the version of SCCM to current build levels
  • Experience with non-Microsoft third party patching tools
  • Experience creating and running SQL scripts
  • Experience with scripting languages to automate tasks (i.e. PowerShell, VBScript, Batch Files)
  • Experience utilizing PowerShell to manage systems and automate common functions
  • Deployment & Configuration Automation Experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Possess relevant certification (i.e., VMware Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified System Engineer, Microsoft Certified IT Professional, etc.)
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries:  Healthcare, Higher Ed, Research, BioTech
  • Experience working in an Information Security Threat Management environment
  • Experience training technical and non-technical staff and customers on the use of information technology solutions
  • Experience with SCOM (System Center Operations Manager)
  • Experience managing Multiple AD Domains within a single SCCM Hierarchy
  • Experience with IBCM (Internet Based Client Management) and/or CMG (cloud management gateways)
  • Certificate Management
  • Experience in managing Network Access Control (NAC) tools
  • Experience in Patch My PC Third party solution
  • Experience in Microsoft Azure Cloud computing platform
  • Experience with SCCM methodologies
  • Office 365 experience
  • Experience managing Microsoft Active Directory GPOs
  • Experience managing Microsoft Intune
  • Experience Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
  • Experience with Windows migrations and Active Directory upgrades
