Assistant Professor of Computer Science

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the assistant professor level beginning fall 2020. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a dynamic faculty soon to occupy renovated and expanded, state of the art, academic and scientific facilities and to support an exciting new cross-disciplinary program in Data Science. The position requires a Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field (to be completed no later than August, 2020). Successful applicants will be able to teach computer science courses across our curriculum - including introductory and upper-level courses – and will exhibit potential for a sustained research career and a willingness to foster undergraduate research. To support this, the college offers a paid semester-long research leave in the 4th or 5th year of service.

A highly selective liberal arts college located on Chicago’s North Shore, Lake Forest College enrolls approximately 1,600 students from more than 40 states and from more than 70 countries. Lake Forest is one of the most diverse small colleges in the Midwest with nearly 40% of our student body comprised of domestic minority and international students. The majority of our STEM pool is female and also includes a significant number of first generation and traditionally underrepresented students. At Lake Forest College, the quality of a faculty member’s teaching is the most important criterion for evaluation. The College also expects peer-reviewed publications and active participation in the College community. Lake Forest College embraces diversity and encourages applications from women, members of historically underrepresented groups, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

In a single PDF, please send the following: 1) a current CV that includes documentation of teaching experience, 2) a cover letter that describes your motivation for applying and how a liberal arts environment dedicated to diversity and inclusion aligns with your teaching philosophy, and 3) a research plan that also details your strategy for involving undergraduates in your work. Please request that reference letters be sent directly from three recommenders. All documents should be sent electronically to Professor DeJuran Richardson, cssearch@lakeforest.edu. Review of applications is ongoing and will continue through February 14, 2020 or until the position is filled.
