Job Summary
Managescampus capital construction and renovation projects, generally in excess of $10million, through all phases of planning, design and construction. This position is considered essentialpersonnel and may require storm duty.

PrimaryJob Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Represents the university on State funded and large university funded projects. Coordinates and manages activities among users, architects, engineers, contractors and sub-contractors.
  2. Oversees and managesthe project budget to include updated reports on a monthly basis. Reviews andapproves plans, specifications, submittals, change orders, pay requests, andcorrespondence on assigned projects. Ensures that appropriate parties have reviewed comments presented toarchitects/engineers.
  3. Completes drawings, specifications and other necessary documents to secure materials and items of work to be supplied by vendors and sub-contractors in accordance with State purchasing laws; develops contracts; and processes invoices for payment.
  4. Directs and coordinates the work of University and/or state employed architects/engineers in the development of construction documents and execution of work on major renovations and construction of new facilities.
  5. Consults with appropriate faculty/administrators to formulate programmatic requirements, project descriptions and justifications for major renovation projects and construction of new facilities.
  6. Completes and submits all forms required by the Bureau of Buildings and Institutions of Higher Learning in an accurate and timely fashion. Represents the University at IHL and Bureau of Buildings meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor'sdegree and five years related experience.
ValidMississippi Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesUtilizespersonal computer, computer software (word processing, spreadsheet, database,and Power Point, CAD), photocopy machine, fax, telephone, calculator,University vehicle, ladder, and large format copier/scanner/printer.

Ability toread, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professionaljournals, technical procedures, blueprints or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, businesscorrespondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions fromgroups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability towork with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference,and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability todefine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw validconclusions. Ability to interpret anextensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form anddeal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Ability toread blue prints, plans, design facilities, creatively solve design problems,draw plans, and estimate construction costs; knowledge of building codes, firecodes, and requirements of Americans with Disabilities Act; ability tocoordinate colors and patterns; ability to effectively communicate with a widevariety of individuals including craftsmen, clerical and drafting staff, designprofessionals, contractors, faculty, clients, and state officials.

Knowledge ofArchitectural and Construction office practices to include the understandingand interpretation of AIA contracts and documents.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineeringor Construction Technology. Two years ofexperience managing construction projects in excess of $10 million. At least one year managing educationalconstruction projects in the state of Mississippi. Valid Mississippi Architectural orEngineering license preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for coordinating, directing and inspecting the work performedby contractors, subcontractors, contract labor, and University employees onUniversity-funded renovation and construction projects. Directs and coordinates the work ofUniversity or state employed planners, architects, and engineers in thedevelopment of construction documents.
