The College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering (ECEE). The University of Colorado CEAS is undergoing a period of unprecedented faculty growth and expansion to match an ambitious vision of research and teaching excellence. Our ECEE department is ranked 22nd among public electrical engineering graduate programs, and 21st among public computer engineering programs. Our mission includes a strong emphasis on high impact research, hands-on active learning, inclusive excellence and interdisciplinary technology development. We are located in one of the top three entrepreneurial cities in the country, and co-located with national research labs NIST, NCAR, NOAA and NREL. A visionary leader with demonstrated collaborative and communication skills is sought to further advance the department's mission.

We seek applicants who will: provide vision, leadership and guidance for academic and research programs; promote the visibility and enhance the reputation of the department at the national and international levels; be an advocate for the department; maintain and create cooperation opportunities with industry partners; develop resources to strengthen the long-term viability, efficiency, and effectiveness of the department's research and teaching programs; attract and recruit world-class faculty, high-caliber students and staff; provide oversight to departmental staff operations and performance; promote collaborative research within the department, CEAS and across CU; administer the departmental budget; and mentor faculty at different stages of their careers. Each term of the Chair is 4 years with an option for another 4-year extension.

Qualifications and attributes for the successful candidate include an earned doctorate in electrical and computer engineering, or a closely-related field; a record of excellence in teaching, research and service; demonstrated effective leadership, management and communication with faculty, staff, students, and other administrators; commitment to diversity and inclusion as it applies to faculty, staff and students; familiarity with national trends in undergraduate and graduate education; knowledge about external funding priorities and opportunities; a strong collaboration record and willingness to collaborate with others; a record in effectively managing a large budget, commitment to shared governance, collegiality, and continual professional development for faculty and staff; commitment to leading departmental discussions regarding departmental vision and strategic plans; open-minded, respectful and approachable leadership style.
