Job Details

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Research, the Associate Vice President of Research Advancement will be a key contributor to the research reputation and continued growth of SDSU’s research portfolio. The AVP will lead the University’s Research Advancement team, promote SDSU’s research excellence with federal and state government; and develop and support the efforts of our faculty to pursue and win new external funding opportunities.

The AVP will be an exceptional communicator with demonstrated project management and research experience.  Similarly, the AVP will need to have a proven track record with developing successful teams of researchers from diverse programs, universities and/or agencies. The position requires a practitioner with a broad interdisciplinary understanding of research and scholarship, as well as someone with the breadth of knowledge and experience to lead a team of experts.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D degree plus 8-years of related experience in a related field
  • Experience in forming and managing scientific teams successful in securing research or programmatic funding
  • Knowledge of research funding opportunities for specific targeted areas
  • Ability to identify new funding and business opportunities and coordinate the development of written proposals
  • Ability to work with faculty and key University administrators to identify, develop, and implement strategies that increase institutional research capacity and competitiveness
  • Ability to communicate project goals, objectives, and accomplishments to current and potential sponsors, clients, customers, and partners
  • Ability to coordinate preparation and monitor performance of cost/budget proposals and performance reports to ensure compliance with applicable grant/contract provisions and attainment of established objectives.
  • Familiar with interacting with federal and state agencies in research program development

General Information

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
