Job Summary:
Under direction of the Associate Provost, the Manager for External Reporting will manage the university's reporting of data to external constituencies, including the federal and state governments, as well as private stakeholders that request institutional data in the form of standard surveys. Working as a member of the Institutional Research team, the Manager will coordinate the external reporting of data across the institution, complying with internal and external data definitions, participate in institutional committees that govern the use of institutional data, work with internal and external auditors if applicable, and provide trend and predictive analyses of the reported data to the Associate Provost, and present the analysis and recommendations to various levels of management. The Manager will serve as an internal liaison between Academic Affairs and academic leaders, particularly those who support the academic success of our students.

Job Task/Responsibilities:

  1. Use institutional systems to extract data needed to complete mandatory and voluntary reporting.
  2. Complete mandatory and voluntary surveys requesting institutional data, accurately and in a timely manner.
  3. Coordinate timely submissions with internal stakeholders to comply with internal submission review and audits, centralize reporting where applicable.
  4. Analyze institutionally reported data to ensure consistent reporting among and across external surveys; compared to and aligned with internal usage of similar data.
  5. Work with internal stakeholders to develop action plans that incorporate the use of the externally reported data trends to improve student success and academic quality.
  6. Monitor changes in external data definitions, requirements and methodology, and analyze the impact of those changes on institutional reporting.
  7. Present externally reported data trends, methodologies, data definition and usage revisions, and actionable recommendations to various levels of institutional management, faculty and operational staff.
  8. Support the Office of Institutional Research and Academic Affairs with other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
Knowledge of data integrity practices in higher education
Working knowledge of applied statistical analysis, modeling, and data mining techniques and tools for data analysis
Working knowledge of database applications, and enterprise resource planning systems utilized in Higher Education (eg. Banner, Workday)
Knowledge of various data prep, analysis, modeling and query tools (eg. SPSS, SQL, R, Python, Alteryx)
Strong presentation skills
Strong analytical writing skills
Strong verbal communication skills
Strong Interpersonal/human relations skills
Ability to work as a member of a team and independently
Ability to work across multiple units and layers of an organization
Ability to solve complex problems and recommend viable solutions

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree, doctorate preferred; supplemented with three (3) years of related experience.
