Nature ofWork

Part-time(50%) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to work in a student basedhealth and wellness center. Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner treatspatients from a variety of age groups with a variety of mental health needs.This position will conduct psychiatric evaluations and psychiatric follow-upappointments, and provide consultation to a multidisciplinary team ofphysicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, counselors, social workers andinterns from these disciplines. 

 

Examples of WorkPerformed 

  • The PMHNP is responsible for providing health care to patients ofthe UCCS Wellness Center as directed by nurse practitioner scope of practiceand clinic protocols. 
  • Completes histories, psychiatric examinations and assessments,orders diagnostic medical and psychological testing on all patients withappropriate documentation reflected in the medical record. 
  • Triages walk-in urgent mental health care situations andcoordinates with emergency medical responders for safe transport to appropriatemental health facilities if deemed necessary. 
  • Provides appropriate medication management and consults with otherclinic providers when appropriate. 
  • Refers patients requiring behavioral health care that is beyondthe scope of the Nurse Practitioner’s practice to other appropriate providers.     
  • Provides trainings/case presentations on psychopharmacologicalagents and aspects of psychiatric care to Wellness Center health and mentalhealth care providers and trainees. 
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with the clinic staff,students, and community providers to meet the needs of the behavioral health patientsbeing served by the clinic. 
  • Precepts psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner studentsdoing clinical rotations in Wellness Center. 
  • Participates in mental health and health services weekly staffmeetings and participates with routine chart reviews with other nursepractitioners as a condition of their articulated plans.   
  • Assists other providers and staff with other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities

  • Extensive clinical knowledge of psychiatric mental health and theability to provide mental health care services, including medication managementand counseling, to a variety of behavioral health patients at the UCCS WellnessCenter.
  • Able to differentiate and respond to mental health care situationsthat require acute referral for hospitalization, and non-acute treatment.
  • Ability to provide care to individuals from diverse ethnic,cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
For the purposes of FLSAthis position has been determined to be exempt from (not eligible for) overtimeunder FLSA.


Salary Range for 50% (PT)

$52,000- $57,200

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing with specialty certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by a national certification agency.
  • Unencumbered Colorado RN licensure and placement on the Advanced Practice Nurse Registry or out of state applicant licensures transferred to Colorado within three months of hire.
  • Full prescriptive authority in the state of CO as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or out of state applicant licensure transferred to Colorado within three months of hire.
