Job Details

Founded in 1851, Ripon College prepares students of diverse interests for lives of productive, socially responsible citizenship. Our liberal arts curriculum and residential campus create an intimate learning community where students experience a highly personalized education. The College provides a nationally recognized, academically rigorous, and supportive learning environment characterized by a faculty committed to individualized instruction, academic research, and collaborative inquiry. Ripon College’s five-course Catalyst general education curriculum thoroughly develops the 21st-century skills that employers seek while streamlining the path to graduation. Catalyst ensures students are able to complete multiple majors and minors, experiential study and hold internships in four years. Graduates distinguish themselves as leaders in education, health, science, public service, business, the arts, letters, and industry by applying their ability to communicate persuasively, reason clearly, compute competently, evaluate thoroughly, and deal confidently and effectively with change—skills and habits they acquired through study across the liberal arts at Ripon College.

As the academic leader of the College, the Vice President and Dean of Faculty works closely with the faculty to provide vision and direction to the academic program consistent with the mission of the institution. The Dean of Faculty provides academic leadership for the educational program of the College, as well as faculty support and evaluation. The Dean is expected to encourage an environment conducive to excellence in teaching, scholarly achievement, and community service, and to support the pursuit of grants and external funding.

Candidates should possess a terminal degree preferably within a liberal arts and sciences discipline and be eligible to hold rank as a full professor. The successful candidate should have administrative experience in higher education, a strong record of teaching and scholarly achievement, excellent skills in communicating with faculty, students, alumni, and staff, and a familiarity with trends in higher education.

Review of applications will begin November 18, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. This appointment begins July 1, 2020.

Small-group seminars are held in beautiful century-old buildings with windows that look across our lovely tree-shaded campus—and the college also offers computer-equipped classrooms, modern laboratories, a beautiful flexible-space theater, and excellent athletic facilities. Our students, numbering about 1,100, come from most of the states and from countries around the world. We offer a wide variety of residences, from traditional residence halls to apartment-style living, and more than 90% of our students choose to live on campus. Ripon students participate in more than 70 campus organizations, and they compete in 23 varsity sports. They study off-campus, too, taking part in research programs, internships, and study abroad. Ripon is a true community of scholars where students and faculty collaborate for the success of all.
