The Continuing Education department at Johnson County Community College is searching for a Continuing Education Assistant. The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively serve as a proctor for the Regnier Testing Center operated by the Continuing Education Computer Applications and Information Technology department. This position will also provide administrative support for efficient and effective daily operations of the Continuing Education division including special projects as assigned. This position will administer tests for GED candidates, fire safety and professional certifications across a range of industries. This position supports the planning, coordination and execution of open enrollment classes, contract training and online coursework.

Proctor Regnier Testing Center Exams

  • Schedule testing center appointments for the public using multiple online third-party vendor portals
  • Welcome and check in test center candidates ensuring proper ID and exam vendor protocols are accurately followed
  • Pass required test center proctor certification exams based upon vendor
  • Respond appropriately to questions received in person, via phone and email
  • Document processes for the testing center and its relationships with test providers
  • Maintain the positive testing center environment and adhere to any updates as needed

Provide administrative support for efficient and effective operations of the Continuing Education division

  • Ensure that communication between staff, instructors, students and management is timely, professional and attentive to needs of the Continuing Education division
  • Ensure that check-in, follow-up and completion of assigned tasks is prompt
  • Effectively schedule and efficiently complete assigned Continuing Education administrative projects per department criteria
  • Keep up-to-date on knowledge regarding aspects of program areas and departments
  • Work simultaneously on projects with scheduling flexibility

Provide Customer Service

  • Assist test center clients with check in and ensure exams are completed with no issues.
  • Handle questions, problems and issues with delivery of exams, test center clients and various Continuing Education department staff in a professional, timely and courteous manner

Required Skills
  • One year of post secondary education
  • Computer proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, database and various other programs
  • Ability to work fluently with a variety of software
  • Comfortable exploring and learning new technology and college processes quickly

  • Exercise good judgment and initiative
  • Ability to work with diverse members of the community who present for testing

Preferred

Flexibility for training schedule during first month: Monday-Tuesday, 1-5 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday, 4-10 p.m.

Required Experience

Working at Johnson County Community College

With more than 34,000 students enrolled in credit and continuing education classes each semester, Johnson County Community College is the state's third largest institution of higher education and the largest of its 19 community colleges.

JCCC offers a full range of undergraduate credit courses that form the first two years of most college curricula. The college has more than 100 transfer agreements with area colleges and universities that ensure admittance to specific programs such as business, engineering and education. JCCC students are able to begin their first two years of a four-year degree program here and complete that degree on schedule.

In addition, more than 50 one- and two-year career and certificate programs prepare students to enter the job market in high-employment fields. The college maintains extensive student support services such as computer labs, math labs, a writing center and a learning center.

JCCC’s continuing education program is the largest, most comprehensive in the Kansas City area. Through the Center for Business and Technology, participants can take courses in management and computer application or seminars and workshops that lead to professional certification and licensure. Personal enrichment classes, on topics ranging from gardening to money management, are also offered, while nationally and internationally performing and visual artists appear in the performance spaces and Gallery of Art in JCCC’s Carlsen Center.

The campus, centrally located in the county on 234 acres, opened in 1972. There are 18 major buildings on campus. Currently under construction are the Regnier Center and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art.

JCCC’s full-time faculty and staff numbers about 875. Another 1,800 people work as adjunct faculty or part-time staff. Most faculty members have master’s degrees, and many have or are earning doctorates.

JCCC returns about $2.70 to the community for every tax dollar it collects. The college's total tangible economic impact on the community is more than $182 million annually.
