The successful candidate will teach innovative upper-level undergraduate and online master’s classes courses in the areas of visual rhetoric, digital storytelling, integrated marketing communication, and branding and identity, and UX/UI. Experience in teaching and using Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator, is required. UNCW is an Adobe Creative Campus and all students have free access to Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Experience creating and teaching online courses is ideal. Candidates should also be able to share a vision of high impact, experiential teaching practices, including applied learning working with non-profit clients and students to create integrated marketing communication deliverables. Demonstrating an approach to teaching and research that promotes diversity and inclusion in higher education is especially valued.

Minimum Requirements

The UNCW Department of Communication Studies invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in Integrated Marketing Communication to begin August 2020.

Ph.D. required or obtained within the first academic year of employment. We will have a table at NCA for those who are interested in the position and are attending the conference.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching and a vibrant research agenda in visual communication/visual rhetoric. We invite applications from scholars who consider persuasive and strategic communication from rhetorical and social scientific perspectives.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Communication Studies strives to be an intentional community of engaged teacher-scholars. We work independently and collaboratively to create powerful learning experiences for our students and to create a great place to come and work. We balance subject matter expertise with whole student development and look to be role models of what we teach. UNCW is a growing university located on a beautiful 640-acre campus that is just minutes from a historic downtown and Wrightsville Beach. We have a digital production/TV studio, a Mac Labs and video edit suite, and a student-run IMC firm (Pier601 Creative). We have approximately 500 undergraduate majors in our program and launched a fully-online M.A. in Integrated Marketing Communication in August 2019.
