Assistant Professor

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University invites applications and nominations for multiple tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, although higher ranks may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the applicants.

Michigan Tech BME seeks outstanding candidates who can add to our existing research and teaching strengths in multiple research areas. Applicants that can teach courses in our core under-graduate curriculum and expand the Department’s already strong industrial ties are of particular interest. Post-doctoral or industry experience is preferred. We encourage applications from individuals with strong engineering and mathematical skills who can form productive external collaborations with the medical device industry as well as with other units of the Michigan Tech College of Engineering.

Applicants should have earned a doctorate in an engineering discipline or a closely related field and a research focus on human health. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering such as biomechanics, biomaterials, computational physiology, or instrumentation, as well as graduate courses related to their own research expertise. In addition, applicants must demonstrate the ability to establish a rigorous, externally funded research program. Specific research focus areas are open; however the applicant’s research should complement and strengthen existing focus areas in the Department. The Department is particularly strong in cardiovascular engineering, biomaterials, tissue engineering, biomechanics, biomedical sensors and instrumentation, and biomedical imaging.

The Michigan Tech Department of Biomedical Engineering offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering. For more information, potential applicants are encouraged to visit our website at http://www.mtu.edu/biomedical/.

Applications will be accepted until December 1st, with an anticipated start date no later than August of 2020. Salary and benefits are competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interested candidates should apply electronically to http://www.jobs.mtu.edu/postings/8509 and should include a cover letter, full curriculum vitae, statement of research plans/interests, brief statement of teaching interests, and the names and contact information of three professional references. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
