This is an academic year, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Department of Plant Sciences and Entomology; Department of Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Sciences
Anticipated appointment date: August, 2020
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the university’s food-related programs, establish an externally funded research program, develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and provide support to stakeholders in food systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor will be responsible for Teaching 1 – 2 courses with laboratories per semester in undergraduate and graduate curriculums within the food-related programs at URI (e.g. Aquaculture and Fisheries Science, Animal and Veterinary Science and Technology, Nutrition and Food Sciences, Plant Sciences, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems).
Secure funding, conduct research in innovative, food-related areas associated with their specific field of interest, within the scope of facilities and resources available, and develop a sustained record of scholarly publications.
Advise undergraduates and supervise undergraduate and graduate research activities.
Engage in service activities and governance within the College, University, and broader scholarly community.
Engage with stakeholders to support the sustainable growth of local and regional food systems.
1.PhD or Doctor in Philosophy in Food Sciences or closely-related field at time of appointment.
2.Demonstrated ability to teach at the college level.
3.Demonstrated ability to produce scholarly publications.
4.Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
5.Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal and oral communication skills.
6.Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
7.Demonstrated ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
1.One or more years of Postdoctoral/Faculty experience in Food Sciences or related field.
2.Demonstrated ability to secure funding and develop an independently funded research and/or extension program.
3.Demonstrated ability to supervise student research at the college level.
4.Demonstrated ability to teach HACCP and/or Preventive Controls for Human Food.
5.Demonstrated understanding of food safety regulations.
6.Demonstrated experience working with the food processing sector.
7.Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders in support of the growth of food systems.
