The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) invites application for a full‐time position of Practicum Coordinator/Lecturer in Social Work beginning September 16, 2020. This is a full‐time position with a nine‐month renewable service period with appointment terms of 1‐5 years. This position is non‐tenure track. The successful candidate will coordinate and supervise students’ field placements. In addition to practicum coordination responsibilities, the successful candidate will teach approximately 2 social work courses per academic year, with an emphasis on Field Education-related courses. Optional and additionally compensated teaching opportunities are available during Summer quarter. The successful candidate will also participate in committee work, serve as faculty advisor to a designated number of undergraduate and graduate students, and take an active role in the activities of the School of Social Work and Criminal Justice.

The School of Social Work and Criminal Justice at UW Tacoma offers three degrees. The Master of Social Work (MSW) program includes a part‐time evening program with approximately 130 students and an Advanced Standing evening program with 30 students. The Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare (BASW) program enrolls approximately 110 students. The School also offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with both on‐campus and online delivery formats and offers a multidisciplinary understanding of crime and justice.

Position Functions:

The main functions of the Practicum Coordinator/Lecturer are to coordinate and supervise students’ field education experiences; serve as field liaison between the school and field agencies; identify and develop new placement sites as needed; maintain program data in compliance with School and Council on Social Work Education standards; and teach assigned courses at the BASW and MSW levels.

Salary and Contract:

Salary for this nine‐month position is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. The Practicum Coordinator/Lecturer hired through this announcement will be eligible for promotion and multi‐year (1‐5 year) contracts, renewable upon performance.

  • MSW from a CSWE accredited institution, or foreign equivalent;
  • Minimum of five years full‐time post MSW practice experience in any area of social work;
  • Experience and commitment to social justice work within diverse communities;
  • Ability to articulate an inclusive and multicultural perspective;
  • Experience in supervising social work practicum students and/or coordinating practicums for social work students;
  • Experience with higher education teaching or extensive training of human service-related topics;
  • Experience working and collaborating with community agencies/organizations.
