Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree) of Science in Pharmacy (BSPS).  Licensed in New York State as a Pharmacist.  Certification of successfully passing Board of Pharmacy Examination.  Three (3) years of full-time experience in a retail pharmacy. Knowledge of MS Office.  Knowledge of Pharmacy electronic information systems.


Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree (foreign equivalent) in Pharmacy (PharmD).  Registered and certified by the New York State Education Department (SED) to immunize in New York State. Additional years (4+) of experience in a retail pharmacy. Demonstrated experience working in a supervisory or management role in a pharmacy setting.


Brief Description of Duties: 

Under the laws of NYS, this position is responsible for preparing and administering appropriate pharmaceuticals to patients served in the Student Health Pharmacy. Incumbent will identify critical business opportunities and contribute to the development of meaningful solutions to drive growth and improve performance in the pharmacy.


A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with patients, students, physicians, and insurance providers. Will exhibit exceptional customer service skills that contribute to building relationships with all customers as well as the campus community. Provides supervision of technical pharmacy staff and confirms the quality and accuracy of dispensed products. Maintains confidentiality of records. This position serves as a clinical resource to staff, patients, students and providers.


Dispense prescriptions for all registered SBU students. The incumbent will prepare and dispense medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and will be required to detect therapeutic incompatibilities. Dispense medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals. Assumes duties and responsibilities of Supervising pharmacist when supervisor is not present.

Counsel students on their prescriptions of possible side effects & answer questions, Will counsel patients on the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications, and advise physicians about medication therapy.

Supports the management, oversight and operation the pharmacy including patient safety, regulatory requirements, quality assurance, exceptional customer service, inventory management, financial profitability and  loss prevention. Assists the supervising pharmacist in keeping statistical and financial records, maintain inventory, prepare publicity materials and other marketing services to the community.

Provides supervision of technical pharmacy staff and confirms the quality and accuracy of dispensed products. Serve as preceptor to pharmacy residents and students as assigned.

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.


Special Notes:

This is a part time appointment (.5 FTE). FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.


Must be able to work various days based on business needs. May be required to provide the above services at either the HSC/East campus or Southampton campus. This position may require evening and/or weekend hours.
