Job FieldThe Department of East Asian Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) in the area of Japanese Language. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, for a three-year term, beginning on July 1, 2020 and ending June 30, 2023. An additional two-year renewal may be possible.
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree (or at minimum an MA) in Japanese language education or a closely related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Native or near native fluency in Japanese is expected together with an excellent command of English. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths: https://www.eas.utoronto.ca/. Candidates must demonstrate expertise teaching Japanese as a second/foreign language in a degree granting program at the undergraduate program level including curriculum development and lecture preparation and delivery. Experience in developing online materials/lectures and teaching all levels of Japanese is preferred. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier (as outlined below), and strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
