General Summary

The Honors College seeks a full-time graduate assistant for the winter 2020 semester with the possibility of continuation through the 2020-2021 academic year. The candidate selected for this position will have the opportunity to work closely with the Honors team (administrators, faculty, staff, and students) on a variety of assignments, including but not limited to recruitment and retention activities, student affairs, and academic support services. Other functions and responsibilities may be assigned based on The Honors College's needs and the selected candidate's interests and skills.

The Staff Graduate Assistant receives a stipend and tuition waiver subject to federal tax.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Recruiting Graduate Assistant will lead a small team of undergraduate student fellows whose goal is to maintain and improve recruitment efforts for The Honors College. Duties include but are not limited to managing student fellows, planning and facilitating orientations, representing The Honors College at University-wide events, corresponding with and presenting to potential Honors students and their families, organizing recruitment events, developing new recruitment initiatives, and collaborating with other teams to contribute to the successful operation of The Honors College.

With the guidance of one or more administrators and/or faculty members, the candidate selected will perform a mixture of duties necessary to the successful operation of an academic entity. These may include instruction, research, public service, administration, and other duties as assigned.

General Qualifications
• Ability to work 20 hours per week is required.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
• Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.
• Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.
• Enrollment in at least 6 credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required.

• Work with ease with students, faculty, administrators, and families
• Demonstrate exceptional organization, project, and time management skills
• Demonstrate experience with extracurricular/event programming
• Work well in a highly collaborative environment
• Utilize data to inform decisions

Supplemental Information

Other Desired Qualifications
• Interest working in a higher education setting
• Experience with an Honors Program or College
• Experience working in an office environment and/or leading student work groups
• Experience working with student organizations and/or academic advising
• Familiarity with various computer programs and social media
• Former experience volunteering or working in a recruiting capacity

For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.
