General Summary

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director, Online Advising delivers academic advising services to continuing online CDM students and provides support to new and existing programs and services within the CDM Academic Success Center.

Please note, this position is funded by a grant. If the grant terminates for any reason, if grant funding is lost or reduced for any reason, or if the budgetary needs for fulfilling the grant requirements change, your employment with the university will be immediately discontinued.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supports faculty advising and provides academic advising and administrative services to continuing online CDM students including, but not limited to:
    • Academic curriculum review and course sequence planning.
    • Academic progress assessment.
    • Participate in development of the advising strategies and student success practices for online students.
    • Create and maintain communication efforts according to a contact strategy for assigned retention status.
    • Proactively monitor student course activity, to include but not limited to student performance, class participation, as well as student communication patterns for assignment of retention risk status.
    • Maintain and manage daily Point Of Contact (POC) list of students affected by absenteeism, failing grades and Student Academic Progress and makes contact to help re-connect them to the College and the student learning experience to get them back on track.
    • Participate in outreach efforts to re-enroll students each quarter.
    • Coordinates events for online students (e.g. career focused events, mentoring, alumni networking.
    • Help students utilize DePaul and CDM online academic management tools.
    • Review of DePaul and transfer institution transcripts.
    • Referral to University resources.
  • Participates in special events as sponsored by the College, the Office of Admissions, and other University offices.
    • Academic success and career workshops.
    • Commencement ceremony.
  • Participates in professional development activities, technology training, and serves on College and University committees.
  • Assists the Director with other special assignments as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree.
  • 3-5 years experience in academic advising for online students.


Preferred Requirements

  • Masters degree.

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, web browsing, and PC applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint.
  • Must participate in the overall team effort of service towards efficient operation of the department.
