Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Digital Communications Specialist is charged with developing and implementing strategic plans and tactics to drive awareness and engagement through targeted creative, compelling and branded digital content. Specifically, the role will primarily support the college's storytelling and engagement efforts by utilizing multiple forms of communication, including, but not limited to, social media, Web, multimedia and other emerging communication platforms. This position ensures collaboration and communication with other College and University departments, coordinates and collaborates with other Communications Specialists on tasks to ensure satisfactory and timely completion of promoting news and events. With the goal of building brand awareness and driving engagement, this person leverages high-quality content and reports on metrics.

Other main responsibilities for the Digital Communications Specialist include but are not limited to:

Social Media
  • Plan, monitor, strengthen, and maintain presence on College channels through management of organic posting, scheduling, and engagement for accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Proactively lead social media content planning for the College, including content creation, asset development, and copy/messaging; seek and lead new opportunities for the College social media.
  • Manage, support, and grow the College social communities: Prospective Students, Current Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff; Support social media needs of internal departments and programs as needed.
  • Review and analyze data across platforms; use performance metrics to formulate strategies that build awareness and increase engagement.
  • Serve as the College representative on the University-wide Social Media Working Group.
  • Coordinate student intern to help with generating content, covering events, and providing a student perspective in the College's social channels.

Digital Communications and Marketing
  • Act as the Editor and Producer of the weekly College newsletter, The Monday Memo, working with other departments and programs to promote College events and news.
  • Design and deploy other emails to current students, prospective students, faculty, staff, and university stakeholders utilizing the College Mailchimp account and other digital means as they develop (GU360), work with clients requesting assistance, track engagement results, and report findings.
  • Design, aggregate, and deploy digital screen ads for the College's digital signage system.
  • Assist in updating College webpages, creating content that is SEO friendly and accessible, assisting the director with content strategy.
  • Work on special projects as needed, including but not limited to, support major events, cover College events on some nights and weekends, such as the May commencement ceremonies.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-4 years of full-time experience in content marketing or digital media marketing within higher education/non-profit
  • Experience in drafting ad copy and sponsored content
  • Experience creating content that is suitable for a social audience; excellent grasp on current popular culture and the College student demographic
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects in busy office environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, service orientation, and ability to handle situations with diplomacy and a professional demeanor at all times
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics and knowledge of social media management apps/software
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs required; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Wordpress experience, Four Winds Interactive Content Management experience, and MailChimp experience helpful
  • Higher education experience strongly preferred
