Departmental Overview

International House is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, self-supporting residential and community-oriented program center located in the southeast foothills of the Berkeley Campus. Since its founding in 1930 with a gift from John D. Rockefeller, Jr., it has housed more than 90,000 residents including two Governors of California and eight Nobel Prize laureates. Its mission is to foster intercultural respect and understanding among people throughout the world across cultural, economic, and ethnic lines. Each year I-House provides some 1,100 students and scholars from the United States and around the world with an opportunity to live and learn together over the course of a typical 12-month cycle. I-House's rich array of programs serves the residents, the campus and local community.

Responsibilities

About the Position:
We are in search of a bright, energetic and creative candidate to join our world-class catering team!

Under the general supervision of the Catering manager, the Catering Coordinator will interact with potential clients, guests and staff in a high volume dining environment and must independently prioritize tasks and duties in order to achieve departmental goals and profitability. Must be able to contribute to general marketing strategy and ideas to attract top clientele, supervise and coach catering staff to deliver professional services at all times. Our top candidate will be serve-safe certified.

This position involves staffing and event oversight along with the completion of complex planning and logistics, successful client interaction resulting in catering contracts and positive client feedback. Facilitates all logistics for in-house, campus and public community events such as luncheons, weddings, formal seated dinners and buffets. Ensures that both client and department needs are met through production of high quality events totaling $500,000 annually.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, mature judgment and the ability to interact with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Must be highly organized and have a keen eye for details. Must be skilled in Microsoft Office. Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 50 pounds and endure long periods of walking and standing. Must follow standard HACCP principles of safety and sanitation in food production and service. Position will require some evening and weekend work. Must have clean driving record and possess a current drivers' license.

Salary & Benefits

Hourly Salary Range: $22.08 minimum - $31.70 mid-point
