DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager and Clinic Supervisor, the Authorization Coordinator will provide a variety of support to the different units of the Shiley Eye Clinic. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: patient scheduling, data entry and management, coordination of front desk staff schedules, HMO/VSP authorizations, and other administrative duties. This position will provide back up and coverage for others during vacations, leaves and other absences. Provide work direction and training to AA I's on all front desk duties including scheduling appointments, screening telephone calls, and triaging patients to appropriate doctors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven experience with HMO/VSP authorization and verification process.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.

  • Demonstrated experience with patient scheduling, via Epic system.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Ophthalmology/Optometry practice.

  • Proven experience with heavy phone volume, screening phone calls and triaging patients.

  • Skills in listening, anticipating, and responding to the needs of patients in order to achieve excellent customer service.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use sound judgment. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Proficient computer experience with data entry and management and 10 key adding machines. Skill in the use of other standard office machines.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to juggle multiple tasks with changing priorities and frequent interruption.

  • Proven ability to take responsibility for a task or assignment and see it through to completion with little or no supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to work Saturdays, evening and overtime as needed.
