The College of Business and Graduate School of Management at Lewis University seeks to establish a pool of potential graduate adjunct instructors on an ongoing basis to serve as dynamic and student centered educators in service of the following academic areas: Project Management; Information systems; Business Analytics; Information Security; Quality Management in Healthcare; and Operations Management. Focused on experiential learning, and active engagement, adjuncts chosen to teach at Lewis will create a charismatic and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

Adjunct positions at Lewis University are part-time teaching positions and may instruct 1 or 2 courses each semester on an “as needed” basis. This posting may or may not result in the hiring of adjuncts. Adjunct Faculty provides a quality learning experience for students on a semester basis. Adjunct faculty reports to their respective department chair and/or the dean and performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the University. The relationship of the adjunct faculty member to the student is one of teacher and facilitator of learning.

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service, excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic/Lasallian higher education

-Teach their course(s) either at the Romeoville (Main), Oak Brook, Tinley Park and/or Albuquerque campuses;
-Availability to teach during the weekday, evening and online;
-Prepare course materials, syllabus(ai) and updateBlackboard course shells (LMS platform);
-Participate in required University and College activities, trainings and certifications;
-Provide support and guidance to students.
-Cooperate with department chairs or other program faculty to assure quality and consistency across the program

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate faculty must hold a doctoral degree in the same discipline or subfield. For example, Economics courses requires a PhD in Economics as the minimum requirement or MBA courses requires a PhD or DBA as the minimum requirement or Organizational Leadership courses requires a Doctorate in Leadership. It is preferred that applicants, in certain fields, possess professional licensures, e.g. CFA, CPA, etc.

If the doctoral degree is not in the same discipline or subfield of the course being taught, the adjunct faculty member must have at least 18 additional hours of graduate credit in the discipline or subfield which is one level above the course being taught.

Candidates who have evidence of prior quality teaching and/or training experience required and who indicate a willingness to be flexible in class scheduling.

Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Blackboard and hybrid delivery, not required, but desirable.

Physical Demands:
Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.     Founded in 1932 under the direction of the Chicago Archdiocese and Bishop Bernard J. Sheil, Lewis began as the Holy Name Technical School for boys. Aviation technology was the special emphasis of instruction and the origin of today’s highly regarded Department of Aviation. In 1952 the school was renamed the Lewis College of Science and Technology. In 1960, the De La Salle Christian Brothers - members of a 326-year-old religious order devoted exclusively to teaching and named after Saint John Baptist de La Salle, their founder and Patron Saint of Educators – assumed direction of the institution. Today, with growing enrollment, outstanding programs, experienced faculty and motivated students, Lewis University is recognized as one of the finest, mid-sized, comprehensive Catholic universities in the country.

    A Welcoming Campus
