GSD conducts world-class applied research and directed development resulting in technology transfer of environmental data, models, products, and services that enhance environmental understanding with the outcome of supporting commerce, supporting NWS in protecting life and property, and promoting a scientifically literate public.
GSD is seeking a web developer to manage both internal and external websites. This position will provide all of the content management to maintain a professional web presence in a technology-rich science-focused organization. This developer will manage the day-to-day look and feel of the externally facing websites as well as the informational internal websites (Intranet). Particular attention will be focused on Web security and related processes and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal mandates. Who We AreAt CIRES, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, more than 800 environmental scientists work to understand the dynamic Earth system, including people’s relationship with the planet. CIRES is a partnership of NOAA and the University of Colorado Boulder, and our areas of expertise include weather and climate, changes at the Earth’s poles, air quality and atmospheric chemistry, water resources, and solid Earth sciences. Our vision is to be instrumental in ensuring a sustainable future environment by advancing scientific and societal understanding of the Earth system.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Coordinate with communication specialists to develop compelling content on GSD accomplishments, research, and contributions.
- Design, develop, and maintain GSD internal (intranet) and external websites and web pages.
- Coordinate with IT Services group to securely implement, configure, operate, and maintain the GSD web infrastructure.
- Research and evaluate commercial and open-source web technologies to meet GSD requirements and recommend appropriate and cost-effective implementation.
- Collaborate with various technical and project teams to determine requirements and propose solutions to meet GSD requirements with web technology.
- Review requirements and provide recommended priorities and time estimates for the development of GSD web technology solutions and features throughout GSD.
- Represent GSD in NOAA web committee meetings.
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
- Pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI, Federal background check)

- Be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder.
- Pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI, Federal background check).
- Must be proficient in:
- HTML, CSS, javascript, CGI, Python
- Content Management Systems such as Django-CMS or Wordpress
- Secure coding methods
- The ability to develop attractive device-responsive layouts.
- Demonstrated skill generating and maintaining application documentation and databases.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Must be able to work as part of a team, prioritize projects, and multi-task.
- At least two years of experience in web technology design and development.
- Knowledge of and experience with:
- Apache webserver & Perl
- Dreamweaver or Photoshop
- Resume or CV
- Cover letter addressed to the Search Committee briefly describing your qualifications, professional goals, and specific interest in this position.
