The Technical Craft Specialist A – Lead Audio Specialist is responsible for the set-up, operation and troubleshooting of multimedia equipment used for teaching within classrooms, the auditoriums, as well as other College-related events hosted on the College’s campuses to create optimal audio and lighting conditions with a primary focus on the implementation of the audio components. The Lead Audio specialist also sets up crew assignments for audio set-up and production for internal and external audio events. This position serves as the subject matter expert in the areas of audio to provide technical specifications to other Multimedia Services staff in the execution of project tasks to ensure optimal set up and delivery of audio related MMS services. This position also provides audio support for College’s CCPTV and other video productions, which includes operation of wireless and wired microphone systems and field mixers, as well as TV control room audio functions and audio editing and enhancement for CCPTV and other video productions.

Specific Responsibilities

• Demonstrate technical expertise in the set-up and operation of audio and lighting systems used in College classrooms, auditoriums, and during various on-campus events including providing support as a team lead capacity for events and video productions including for CCPTV.

• In collaboration with the MMS Coordinator and CCPTV producer, set up crew assignments for events, identify tasks, assign appropriate technician(s) and set up call times for event audio services.

• Provide audio support and assigns audio crew tasks for College’s CCPTV television production.

• Serve as lead subject matter expert in the area of audio production to provide technical specifications to other MMS staff in the execution of specific project tasks, as directed by the Coordinator and Director of MMS.

• Provide monitoring and troubleshooting to maintain proper functionality of audio and lighting systems.

• Submit repair requests for equipment as needed.

• Maintain proper safety and inventory controls of audio and lighting systems.

• Adhere to departmental guidelines and protocols related to equipment usage and maintenance.

• Record, transfer, duplicate and edit audio files.

• Transport equipment to various locations throughout the College’s main campus and regional centers.

• Attend weekly staff meetings as requested to review upcoming events and activities impacting the Multimedia Services department.

• Respond to emergency and routine incoming calls to the service counter, as appropriate.

• Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.

• Travel to regional campuses, as needed, to provide technical assistance.

• Work extended hours on evenings or weekends, as needed.

• Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required.

• Five (5) years of professional work experience operating audio, lighting and projection equipment for large venues is required.

• Experience using a Yamaha PMSD-RH 32 channel audio mixing board, or equivalent system, is required.

• Experience with digital audio editing software required.

• Experience using a computerized lighting console (i.e. ETC Element 40) is required.

• Ability to hang and focus lights and projection equipment required.

• Ability to work well as a member of a team in resolving problems and issues.

• Ability to demonstrate effective problem solving and judgment is required.

• Ability to work well independently with limited supervision is required.

• Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.

• Valid Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required.

• Ability to climb and walk within confined spaces required.

• Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds required.

• Ability to work extended hours on evenings and Saturdays, as needed, is required.

• Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

• Four (4) years of professional audio experience with a TV or film crew is preferred.

• Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Logic Pro and Pro Tools preferred.
