Job Summary

Eastern Washington University is looking for an Director of Compliance to monitor NCAA legislation, Big Sky Conference Rules and Eastern Washington University policies for the athletic department. The position reports to the Associate Athletic Director of Compliance. The position is Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Athletic Compliance Department and alignment with the organizational goals of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Eastern Washington University. In the absence of the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance, the Director of Compliance will become the head individual in charge of ensuring NCAA, Big Sky Conference, and institutional rules are followed.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 2 years relevant full-time compliance experience or Graduate Assistant experience required
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with LSDBI
  • Masters in Sport Management or Law degree
  • Working knowledge of ARMS or other compliance software
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Experience creating training and presenting to groups
  • Experience working with high school and college age students

Maintain a rules education program for athletic coaching staff, administration and staff, university constituencies, current student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, and boosters.
•Coordinate and/or conduct rules meeting on a regular basis with various members of the coaching staffs, student-athletes and administration.
•Provide and create handouts to explain rule changes throughout the academic year.
•Work closely with new coaches as they arrive on campus to be sure they have knowledge of NCAA and Big Sky Conference rules.
•At the beginning of the academic year conduct meetings on complimentary ticket regulations, employment regulations, agent and amateurism legislation, recruitment, extra benefits, boosters regulations, playing and practice season limitations, weekly practice hour limits, and procedures on reporting violations.
•Prepare and conduct monthly compliance education for coaching staffs with support of the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance.
• Present compliance information yearly to the Eagle Athletic Fund and University foundation.
•As new NCAA publications come out, communicate that out to staff and coaches.

Track and perform initial eligibility assessments of prospective student-athletes to determine if they will meet NCAA standards and meet with unofficial and official visits for prospective student-athletes and advise the prospective student-athlete on high school requirements set by the NCAA.
•Complete initial eligibility transcript evaluations.
•Advice incoming student-athletes on courses, GPA, and test scores needed to be academically cleared by the NCAA once graduated from high school.
•Work with high school advisors to ensure NCAA academic requirements are being meet by prospective student-athletes.
•Act as primary contact for admissions.
•Monitor and complete admissions and initial eligibility incoming prospect report.
•Assist with National Letter of Intent program.
•Assist with initial eligibility waiver process.
