Description of Department: The Departments of Sociology and History at SUNY Oswego offers students a challenging major with a core that highlights the importance of social theory and research methods while offering students the freedom to choose from academically-stimulating electives depending on student interest in US and World history, historical era, globalization, culture, social inequalities, political economy, or criminal justice.

Description of Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor of Sociology and History will be required to teach courses such as Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Work, courses that address Latinx Studies in area of expertise, and department core classes such as Social Problems and/or Race/Class/Gender. Additionally, the Assistant Professor will teach one upper division history course in Immigration and or labor/work in the Post World War II era. The Assistant Professor will also be expected to advise sociology majors with both curriculum within the major and provide mentorship and support to a diverse student body.

Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Sociology at the time of application
- A commitment to excellence in teaching
- Engaged in an active program of research
Preferred Qualification:
- A proven record in teaching at the college level and professional publications or research under review.
- A proven record that demonstrates the ability to cross disciplinary and cultural borders in their research and teaching.
- A proven record that demonstrate scholarly activity and a commitment to undergraduate service/community learning projects.
- The ability to enhance the department's support to the university's Global Studies Program and Peace and Conflict Studies and Gender & Women's Studies Program is also desirable.
