Postdoctoral Associate

Job description

Required Qualifications: (As evidenced by an attached resume)

Doctoral degree (Foreign equivalent or higher degree) in Biology or related field. Research experience with transgenic murine models and hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell culture.

Preferred Qualifications:

Solid experience and first author publications in molecular biology or stem cell biology.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Zhan lab focuses on the pathogenesis and treatment of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The MPNs are clonal stem cell disorders characterized by hematopoietic stem/progenitor cell (HSPC) expansion and overproduction of mature blood cells. The acquired mutation JAK2V617F plays a central role in these disorders, but the precise molecular mechanisms responsible for MPN HSPC expansion are not fully understood, limiting the effectiveness of current treatments. Using molecular and genetic techniques in both MPN patient samples and transgenic murine models, our lab studies how the hematopoietic microenvironment cells (e.g. endothelial cells, megakaryocytes) contribute to the neoplastic stem cell expansion in MPNs. The ultimate goal of our research is to understand the fundamental principles of stem cell biology and develop more effective therapies for patients with MPNs and other hematologic malignancies.
