Position Summary


At Stony Brook Medicine the Supervising Computer Operator position is the senior member of the team that supports the entire Organization for all Information Technology related problems and questions seven days a week between the hours of 11:00 PM and 7:30 AM. The night shift at the Help Desk is a critical element of Information Technology Support for our clinical operations including support for our STARS Cerner PowerChart EMR System.

Duties

Duties of a Supervising Computer Operator may include the following but are not limited to:


•Ensure adequate staffing for each shift. The Help Desk department should be staffed at all times during shift. Shift staff should coordinate their breaks and time away from the department to prevent a situation in which the Help Desk department is not staffed.
•Monitor and ensure a high level of availability of our electronic patient care systems and resources at all times. Obtain all necessary information regarding problems to the Patient Care Systems/Applications and record in a Help Desk ticket for resolution and tracking.
•Follow established procedures to escalate problems to the appropriate IT system support group or vendor. Report problems to the appropriate Information Technology departments and follow established downtime procedures. Notify and inform SBUH leadership and IT Administrator on Duty regarding problems during off-hours and weekends as needed.
•Follow SOP to resolve problems with Roll Carts, PCs and printer hardware during shift and escalate to appropriate IT Support groups as necessary.
•Monitor and ensure that shift staff monitor all system interfaces on ORION Interface Engine, Lab Information System, Cerner and OpenScape consoles during shift, take action to resolve problems as per SOP.
•Ensure that shift staff are familiar with all procedures for resolving or escalating connectivity issues with ORION, Lab or Cerner Interfaces. Perform or delegate daily, monthly or quarterly Laboratory Information System scheduled procedures and maintenances. Ensure that shift staff know procedures for resolving issues within the Laboratory Information System.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

MUST have taken and passed the specific job related Civil Service exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list.

High school or high school equivalency diploma AND at least one of the following:

1. six or more college semester credit hours in a computer-related field such as Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or Computer Information Systems;

2. Successful completion of high school vocational studies related to large scale Computer Information Systems;

3. six months’ full-time experience in the operation of a mainframe or medium to large server or complex, multi-variable print production.


Promotion: one year of permanent competitive service as a Senior Computer Operator.

This position will remain posted until filled or for 90 days max.
