The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

The Lab Manager will ensure laboratory members have all consumables and equipment on a daily basis for the smooth running of laboratory activities, act as an advisor to laboratory members to resolve technical problems, order equipment and consumables, schedule instrument maintenance, and equipment performance requirements. The position will also ensure standardized procedures and protocols are maintained and be responsible for the laboratory’s compliance with University, state and federal requirements, including mandatory paperwork. Assistance with lab research projects may occur.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Ability to provide advice for project(s) and all related activities in that setting to include quality assurance and safety. Ability to coordinate and manage facilities, equipment, supplies and related resources for the project. Ability to monitor environmental risks, if any quality control. Ability to establish a set of tasks and activities associated with an intended outcome and timeline. Ability to ensure actions are performed and/or implemented to achieve the results of the project. Good knowledge of laboratory practices and techniques. Molecular biology knowledge in order to give support to the lab members with cloning techniques.

Order laboratory supplies, chemicals, equipment, and instruments when requested. Receive shipments and reconcile packages received with orders placed. Liaise with sales and technical representatives from within and external to the University. Responsible for organizing the replacement and/or repair of all damaged equipment.

Percentage of time30 Duties/Responsibilities


Coordinate technical activities related to the operation of the laboratory, including but not limited to instrument scheduling, and regular laboratory maintenance issues (e.g., defrosting -20 °C freezers, de-icing -80 °C freezers, microscope and instrument maintenance). Oversee laboratory members adhere to Standard Operational Procedures. Ensure cleanliness and organization of shared laboratory space in accordance with established laboratory chore scheduling. Ensure all paperwork required for the daily operation of the laboratory is complete and available on request, including, but not limited to SDS and biosafety manual, and policies and procedures are inline with UGA, state and federal policies/laws.

Organize safety training and ensure all personnel have completed online and in-laboratory trainings and paperwork is completed properly. Conduct quality checks on safety of laboratories, including biohazards and/or radiation with relevant disposal requirements. Ensure waste management protocols are followed.
Ensure maintenance of the facilities remain in good standing with University requirements.

Assist laboratory members by undertaking a range of routine technical and experimental tasks including but not limited to, constructing mutants and vectors.
