This includes understanding and applying applicable accounting standards and policies; analysis, reporting, and research; as well as managing the process from start to finish. This position troubleshoots and resolves operational issues as well as is expected to analyze, streamline, and re-engineer processes for greater efficiency, accuracy and control. This position requires regular communication to both internal and external customers. This position also oversees the payment application and refund processing for Wharton's business units, including research and analysis, internal and external client issues and inquiries, and reconciliation of bank statements and account receivable reports.Job Description
The Business Manager will work closely with Executive Education Staff and Human Resources to properly identify and facilitate payments to Individual Service Providers and ensure compliance with Worker Classification Standards and policies. This individual must utilize substantial interpersonal, written, and analytical skills in order to communicate with all levels of the Executive Education including senior leadership, faculty, and directors as well as external clients and contractors. Given the custom arrangements that are common in Executive Education, this position must possess a combination of big picture, intellectual curiosity, detailed thinking, and exceptional communication skills.
- Manage Financial Processes: Manage Executive Education (EE), EE Online & Knowledge at Wharton (K@W) compensation and reimbursement processes.
- Function as a resource for reimbursement and compensation related research and other consultative services for this dynamic and large organization.
- Continually review existing processes for efficiencies and accuracy.
- Proactively seek solutions to make more effective business processes in those areas supported.
- Provide daily support for the EE travel reimbursement process, obtaining and reviewing supporting documentation, preparing the applicable forms, and creating on-line requisitions for the appropriate approval for faculty/staff travel, reporting and reimbursement.
- Prepare and analyze compensation for EE, Online, and K@W departments. This includes University faculty and outside consultants for teaching duties ($15M/annually) and Staff Payroll – full time/part time, temps and students ($10M/annually).
Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with limited supervision, and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. High attention to detail, accuracy and follow through required. Strong computer skills with proficiency with MS Office required. Knowledge of the following University systems for financial management is preferred: BEN Financials, Business Object, and Concur.
