Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This position is responsible for research activities in the Center for Vaccine Research in a Biosafety Level 3+ (RBL) environment. Incumbent is responsible for the production and characterization of viral stocks. The incumbent will determine the median tissue culture infectious dose (TCIS50) or median egg infectious dose (EID50), the HA/HAI assays using horse, chicken turkey or guinea pig red blood cells; microneutralization titer assays and neuraminidase-inhibition assays; perform the quality assurance and quality control programs (such as sterility testing, mycoplasma-assessment, determination of antiviral resistance and pyrosequencing of mutations); will generate polyclonal antisera against influenza gene products in animal models; work with small laboratory animals and be proficient in animal techniques and protocols; Incumbent will maintain a clean and sterile lab environment, designing and implementing experiments, data analysis and keeping detailed records of all procedures. Supervision of rotating students and undergraduate personnel. Incumbent will perform blood processing, maintain database of samples and ship samples to collaborators upon instruction from PI. This position will successfully complete Department of Justice Security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins.

Learn new procedures and solve routine technical problems. Maintain laboratory inventory and follow financial/management protocols of the CVI.
Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a fully productive, cooperative team member.
