DepartmentUnder the direction of the Assistant Director, Career Education and working with other members of the Career Centre, the Career Educator will be responsible for developing and delivering career education curriculum for undergraduate, professional and graduate students at the University with an emphasis on active, self-directed and experiential learning and reflection.

The Career Educator will develop strong working relationships with academic and co-curricular partners in the University, students and student groups to: identify opportunities for career education of U of T students; develop and deliver career education programming; prepare students for career exploration activities; monitor progress and assess learning outcomes related to career education activities.

Working with other Career Centre staff, the incumbent will ensure that all students involved in career learning have appropriate opportunities for pre-placement skill building and post-placement facilitated reflection and integration of learning. This position also designs, implements and interprets assessment projects related to student career development learning outcomes. The Career Educator will work actively to develop and implement initiatives that foster career planning competencies in support of the University’s strategic goal of enhancing the student experience.


Campus(MINIMUM)
Education:
Master’s degree in student development, leadership development, higher education, or adult education or any equivalent combination of education or experience.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years experience in an experiential program delivery environment, with an emphasis on project and program development, implementation, assessment, group facilitation and group reflection, preferably within an educational setting, or the non-profit sector. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to research, learn and utilize theoretical approaches and best-practices for career education. Demonstrated experience building relationships with academic and co-curricular partners, students and student groups.

Skills:

Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), and well-developed technology skills including locating and evaluating relevant material using the Internet and database searches; comfort with automated computer systems (e.g. job search databases) and electronic learning tools e.g. blogs, social networking, e-learning, video clips. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven track record designing and implementing interactive learning opportunities. Demonstrated experience developing rubrics to assess learning outcomes. Sound presentation and public speaking skills utilizing new technology, humour and creativity.

Other:
Proven knowledge of experiential learning models, pedagogy and andragogy. Ability to exercise initiative, creativity, and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to create an effective, multi-modal learning environment for students. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment in a busy, deadline oriented workplace. Ability to work in a highly diverse University community and to work constructively and cooperatively with a variety of campus partners in order to foster and support an environment of trust, respect and collaboration. Demonstrated experience that indicates personal commitment to innovation, teamwork, flexibility and integrity. Working knowledge of career development, student development and other related theories. Commitment to continuous professional learning and development.
