DepartmentThe Director, FacultyInformation Technology Services provides strategic leadership with regards toinformation systems, processes, and associated technology in support ofFaculty’s academic mission and priorities.  


Under thegeneral direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director, Faculty InformationTechnology (FIT) is responsible for oversight of design, development,implementation, operation and support of all enterprise infrastructuresolutions in support of Faculty’s academic mission and priorities; ensuring compliance with University policies to achievecritical objectives, including information security and risk management at theFaculty of Applied Science and Engineering. 

 

The incumbentwill advise on and manage the visioning,planning, budgeting, development and performance/ effectiveness of thetechnical environment so that all hardware and software solutions are reliable,secure, user-friendly, and meet the Faculty’s needs, provides leadership onwhat emerging technologies should be introduced to ensure IT capabilitiesrespond to the needs defined in the Faculty's and university academic plans. Theincumbent has full managerial oversight of IT staff of the Faculty InformationTechnology Office.



CampusEDUCATION:

Postgraduate degree in the field of computer science, engineering, informationsystems or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Industryrecognized or additional postsecondary certification in the field of ITsecurity is desired.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimumten (10) years’ experience in managing and administering complex InformationTechnology Systems in a diverse environment; Experience in a University environment,particularly in senior administrative settings, a strong preferred asset; Experiencenegotiating with service providers, establishing and monitoring service levelagreements. Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategicplanning and development, security methodologies, project management,structured analytical methods and policy development.

Expert level knowledge and extensive experience and skills in awide range of technologies, tools, and methodologies as applied within a multi-constituencydistributed environment; Leadership competencies and conflict resolution skillswith ability to motivate teams in a multidimensional collaborative environment;Excellent judgment, decision-making abilities and negotiation skills; Abilityto lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve tacticaland strategic goals; Demonstrated ongoing career development through active andself-motivated professional development; High level of personal integrity, aswell as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and show anappropriate level of judgment; High degree of initiative, dependability andindependence; Superior analytical, evaluative, organizational, andproblem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to utilize logic and discretionin the interpretation of policy, procedures and guidelines; Excellentcommunications skills, both verbal and written; Demonstrated skills andexperience managing multi-discipline staff with diverse skills in a unionizedenvironment.


Demonstrated knowledge and skills with all manner of Microsoftproducts and services including server and desktop, operating systems, MicrosoftActive Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, web servers, clustering,virtualization, Document management systems, enterprise workflow automationtools, virtual printing, development tools and cloud services; High level ofexpertise working with networks, multi-tier distributed systems and complexprofessional system is also required.

 

OTHER: 

Ability to drive change and build capabilitiesthat effectively balance the needs between continuously exploring capabilitiesto optimize operational efficiency and delivering innovative and agile IT servicesand solutions; Excellent interpersonal skills to lead discussions with senior leadersand external partners in ways that support strategic planning and decision-makingand to build consensus with business leaders; High degree of political acuity,tact, discretion and diplomacy; Proven leadership ability. Ability to lead calmlyin a variety of situations; Excellent project management skills and the abilityto plan, design, develop, and implement complex I.T. technology and system; Highlyproactive with ability to effectively direct and manage a wide and dynamicrange of duties/priorities simultaneously with conflicting deadlines, in ahigh-pressure/high-volume environment and continue to maintain the highestdegree of accuracy, quality and autonomy at all times; Exceptional serviceorientation and commitment to high quality customer service.
