Life Science Research Professional 2🔍School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States📁Research📅Sep 17, 2019 Post Date📅84672 Requisition #Stanford University Department ofCardiothoracic Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 2 to perform more complexfunctions and activities involved in defined research projects, andindependently conduct analyses of ‘omics data generated through researchprojects including: Etiology of Pulmonary Stenosis, Role ofcontractile reprogramming in Vascular disease, Evaluation of phenotypicchanges in Valve pathogenesis:.

Duties include:
  • Independently analyze a major portionof the research ‘omics data in the areas of pediatric congenital heart diseasesof the heart and vasculature, prevention of neonatal brain injury duringcomplex cardiac surgical operations. Make recommendations on experimentaldesign, strategic approaches and/or research direction to principalinvestigator.
  • Interpret and analyze results,often where few guidelines exist, and make modifications to existing proceduresand protocols to improve techniques and enhance data value.
  • Develop new analytical approacheswhere appropriate protocols are not described in the literature or wheremodification or adaptation of standard procedures and protocols is required.
  • Perform ongoing literature reviewto remain current with new procedures and related research; apply to ongoingresearch and development of new protocols.
  • Contribute substantively to thepreparation of papers for publication, especially in the results section, andto publication of findings. Present ongoing work to colleagues and/or academicconferences.

DESIREDQUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferably a Doctorate or at minimum a Master’sdegree and two years applicable experience, or combination of advanced educationand experience in an applicable science.
  • Demonstrated skill in nucleic acidand protein sequence analysis, mechanisms of regulation of gene expression,informatic analyses related to ‘omics research.
  • Comprehensive understanding andworking knowledge of basic biomedical sciences including chemistrybiochemistry, molecular biology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrated technical ability inimmunological assay, histochemistry, cell culture, microscopy, PCR, SDS-PAGE,Western botting and detection, evaluation of gene expression data and advancedbioinformatics.
  • Developing project managementskills.
  • Demonstrated oral and writtencommunication skills, advanced abilities to analyze very large data sets datausing advanced computational informatics software

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE(REQUIRED): Bachelor'sdegree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience;or Master’s degree in a related scientific field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLSAND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Comprehensive understanding ofscientific principles.
  • General computer skills and abilityto quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientificapplications.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellentjudgment.
  • Ability to maintain detailedrecords of experiments and outcomes.
  • Ability to work under deadlineswith general guidance is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills anddemonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist,bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully,perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry,push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl,reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop,chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
  • Must have correctible vision toperform duties of the job.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel,stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eighthours.
  • Ability to lift heavy objectsweighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a dusty, dirty,and odorous environment.
  • Position may require repetitivemotion.

WORKINGCONDITIONS:

  • May be required to worknon-standard, extended or weekend hours in support of research work.
  • May require working in closeproximity to blood borne pathogens.

  • Position may at times require theemployee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/orinfectious diseases are present.
  • Employee must perform tasks thatrequire the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses andshoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator.
  • May require extended or unusualwork hours based on research requirements and business needs.
