Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Enterprise Systems will provide forward-looking vision, and operational direction for the development and implementation of enterprise-wide systems and services. The Director of Enterprise System will be a transformative leader with a demonstrated ability to provide innovative IT solutions to address the complex requirements of a perpetually evolving higher education environment. In partnership with a broad range of institutional stakeholders, the Director will be a collaborative leader and manager of the enterprise systems team delivering reliable and quality enterprise systems as well as customer engagement and service.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a member of the IT department’s Leadership Team to provide technology leadership as well as actionable execution of WFU’s IT strategic plan.
  • Demonstrate understanding of current and emerging innovative technologies and services that could be used to advance the university’s mission.
  • Establish and execute the technical direction for technology solutions design and delivery including management of third-party cloud providers.
  • Manage, retain, recruit and continually develop the highest caliber Enterprise Systems Team. Conduct an organizational review of enterprise systems team to ensure that processes and resources are optimally deployed.
  • Work collaboratively with a broad range of institutional stakeholders promoting a culture of service and excellence.
  • Work to continually engage with and strengthen campus IT advisory committees, initiative teams, and communities of interest.
  • Accountable for maintaining the security and confidentiality of any proprietary or sensitive information or data in any medium regarding the university or its students, faculty, or staff.
  • Available to work after hours and/or weekends, and participate in the departmental on-call process, as required by the position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight years of enterprise systems solution management experience (University environment preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience in related fields.
  • An innovative leader committed to exceptional quality.
  • Strong combination of leadership, analytical, and technical knowledge required.
  • A proven track record for building and implementing quality application services.
  • Proven strong communication and interpersonal skills and consensus-building abilities with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated desire to maintain and grow skills in ever-changing technology market.
  • Experience and ability to lead technical and non-technical team members including but not limited to: staffing, development, performance management, strategic and tactical direction.
  • Proven skills working effectively across internal functional areas and the ability to coordinate/facilitate cross-functional teams.
  • Creativity and adaptability; resilience to change.

Leadership Responsibility:

Responsible for owning the team’s work.

  • Able to effectively perform job responsibilities with little guidance or direction. Able to lead team members with a focus on growing an individual strengths and interests.
  • Leads and controls the activities of a broad functional area through senior managers, managers and/or high-level professionals within the department with overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods, and employees.
  • Responsible for hiring, managing, evaluating and growing staff within the operational unit.
