A postdoctoral position is available in the Dingemans lab in the Department of Applied Physical Sciences at UNC Chapel Hill. The project will involve the synthesis and characterization of novel reactive thermoplastic high-performance polymer chemistries. The aim is to fully understand the structure–property space, polymerization kinetics, and processing conditions in relation to final after-cure (thermo)mechanical properties.Educational Requirements
PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or related field. PhD in Polymer chemistry or polymer processing and characterization preferred.Qualifications and Experience
The candidate must have a strong background in the design, synthesis, and characterization (e.g. thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, melt rheology and tensile testing) of high-performance/step-growth polymers. Proven expertise in (organic) monomer/polymer synthesis is a strong plus.
The candidate should have excellent communication skills, have a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and be able and willing to guide PhD and undergraduate students in an academic laboratory environment.Equal Opportunity Employer
