North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperatives Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.

Hyde County is located in the rural northeast region of North Carolina with a population of 5,810. The County is divided by the Pamlico Sound yielding mainland Hyde and Ocracoke Island. The land area of Hyde County is 612.80 square miles or 392,211 acres. Lake Mattamuskeet is located in Hyde County and is the largest natural lake in North Carolina. It is a shallow coastal lake, averaging 2-3 feet in depth, and stretches 18 miles long and 7 miles wide.

Essential Job Duties

This is a part-time, 20 hour per week position.

Responsible for maintaining the H.Y.D.E Kids interpersonal skills building program and Restitution/Community service components provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.

Duties include:
-Development of lesson plans for at-risk youth.
-Weekly Status Report for every individual enrolled in each component of the program.
-Monthly Status Report/Brief for the J.C.P.C. program and all of its accompanying components.
-Tutoring/Remediation for youth during school hours.
-Developing individual action plans for youth referred to the program.
-Attend local, district and state 4-H events.
-Attend all J.C.P.C. training’s and council meetings.
-Coordinating partnerships with local, district and state organizations.
-Scheduling conferences with school administration and in-home visits with youth parents/guardians.
-Must report all program updates, status and revisions to Program Manager.

Other Work/Responsibilities

• Must be able to lift 40 pounds
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, which may include overnight 4-H events

Minimum Experience/Education

The minimum requirement for employment with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) is a high-school diploma or equivalent. Advanced training in related fields is preferred.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Prefer a bachelor’s degree or higher

Experience working with children and adults a plus

Valid Driver’s License and reliable, personal transportation required and must be maintained.
