 The Office of LaboratoryAnimal Resources (OLAR) department hasan opening for a full-time UniversityStaff (unclassified) Facility Support position.

 JobSummary:

The purpose of this full-timeposition is to facilitate the normal day-to-day operations of the Center forComparative Medicine. This position ensures appropriate sanitation of thegeneral use areas and hallways in a secure vivarium. This position will beresponsible for stocking and inventory control of all personal protectiveequipment, general use supplies, laundry, and cleaning supplies. This positionwill also; ensure appropriate trash removal, sort and prepare carcasses for disposal,monitor the pest control program, procure animal feed and other supplies, and performminor building repairs.

 Examplesof Work Performed:

  • Performsminor facility repairs and painting. Repairs include fixing the floor scrubber,patching/repairing holes in the wall, general equipment repair, replacement ofwheels and bent shelves, and fixing watering valves/Lixits for large animals. Paintswalls, doors, and metal equipment.
  • Providessanitation by steaming, fogging or foaming of rooms, corridors, hallways, wallsand doors within the facility.
  • Performsupkeep of disinfection station, footbaths and disinfection bottles throughmaintenance, filling, and the manual transportation of the footbaths
  • Overseesthe facilities’ pest control program and keeps accurate records/documentationof that program
  • Evaluatesequipment to determine if equipment can be repaired and makes requests forparts orders
  • Maintainsfloor scrubber, air readers, and drop detectors
  • Permanentlymarks supplies; installs utensil holders, hand soap dispensers, shelving,hooks, and other performs installation projects
  • Performspreventive maintenance for the tissue digester for the gaskets and the pumps
  • Removesthe heavy animal carcasses from refrigerators and freezers. Empties, thaws andcleans carcass freezers
  • Assembleslarge equipment such as carts, racks, cabinets, and chairs
  • Performshose reel repair and replaces broken glove boxes
  • Cross-trainswith dock support position to assume responsibilities for that position in theevent that the dock person is absent
  • Workswith dock support position for large facility projects, including;decontamination, sanitation, painting, equipment adjustments and equipmentassembly
  • Movementand organization of materials
  • Liftsand transports the de-conned equipment
  • Deliversand stores heavy equipment
  • Stackspallets of feed and supplies
  • Assists with cage wash operations as needed
  • Performsother duties as assigned

    QualificationsMinimumQualifications:

    • Thetasks performed do not require any specific previous education or experience.However, mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn are required.
    • Thisclass requires the individual to perform physical work involving general tasksincluding hauling, lifting, and moving.
    Conditionsof Employment:

    • NOTE:This position has been designated as essential personnel, “Subject to call 24hours per day, seven days per week” and may be required to carry a pager.Position may also be required to “Stay over late” or “Come in early” to “Cover”shifts, as needed and may be required to respond to any emergencies as needed.If hired, you will be required to provide effective off-hours phone contactinfo for emergency call-in purposes.
    • Mustpossess and maintain a current State of Colorado Driver’s License by the timeof hire
    • Mustbe willing and able to sit, climb stairs, stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, bend,and reach above shoulders on an occasional basis, with or without accommodation

    Salaryand Benefits:

    • Thehiring salary range for this position has been established at $31,000 to $36,000and is commensurate with skills and experience
    • Thisposition is eligible for overtime compensation
