The ideal candidate will share Reedley College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. The successful candidate will join a highly motivated team of faculty dedicated to improving the success of the student body with appropriate curriculum. This full-time faculty position will report to the Dean of Instruction

The Math Center Coordinator will:

  • Set up and oversight of the Math Center including teaching tutor training and tutor classes;
  • Recruit, train and evaluate student tutors;
  • Develop innovative and efficient tutorial service delivery strategies such as organizing and implementing workshops to support instruction courses and on-line services;
  • Work closely with all faculty from the Mathematics Department, Freshman Academic Success Team (FAST), STEM Ambassadors, and the Tutorial Center;
  • Serve as instructor of record in the Math Center;
  • Develop intervention strategies for retention of underprepared and at risk students;
  • Work towards and maintain College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) level one certification;
  • Meet the tutorial needs of students;
  • Coordinate activities to promote and publicize the services provided by the math center;
  • Develop budget recommendations; maintain records;
  • Conduct studies regarding the math center;
  • Complete program review reports and student learning outcome (SLO) assessments;
  • Participate in academic committee work; and
  • Otherwise fulfilling the duties and responsibilities required of the instructional staff.
  • May be required to work evenings and Saturdays as part of contract load.
Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for service as a tutorial center coordinator or instructor shall be either (1), (2), (3), or (4) below and (5):

(1) the minimum qualifications to teach any master’s degree level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed;

OR

(2) a master’s degree in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology, or other master’s degree with emphasis in adult learning theory;

OR

(3) a valid California Community College credential;

OR

(4) the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); and

(5) demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of

Desirable Qualifications
  • Earned master’s degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, physics, or mathematics education;
  • Experience in coordinating and developing, planning, and monitoring all aspects of a math study center including: recruiting, training, and evaluating tutors; coordinating personnel;
  • Maintain records and preparing reports; reviewing, evaluating, and assisting in the selection of materials used in tutoring and supplemental learning;
  • Knowledge of current tutoring methodology;
  • Knowledge of recent assessment methods;
  • Experience teaching math courses at the community college level;
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of technology in an educational environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty;
  • Demonstrated experience working with a broad and diverse student population;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff orally and in writing;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s relational practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Conditions of EmploymentSalary and Benefits

Salary is $57,320 – $88,245 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,082 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure

Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
