General Description / Primary Purpose

The School of Engineering (SoE) at the University of North Florida (UNF) invites applications for an academic advisor. This is a temporary position ending on August 4, 2020 with possibility for renewal depending on the availability of funds. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate effective capacity to work and engage with the diverse engineering student body. Effective academic advising is the focus of this position. Essential Duties

Job Function

Job FunctionServe as a resource for all prospective and current UNF students within the SoE.
Meet with students regarding registration, curriculum advising, and programs of study.
Assist in admission/probation/suspension decisions when necessary. Assist in the development of recruitment plans for potential undergraduate students.
Represent the SoE at various recruitment events throughout the year. Assist in the SoE program reviews and provide college data as required. Assist in the development of program marketing materials describing offerings within the SoE for undergraduate programs.
Conduct marketing visits and work on marketing projects. Prepare productivity reports and serve on committees as appropriate. Serve as a resource to other departments on campus including but not limited to One Stop Student Services, the First Year Advising and other UNF College advising offices and departments. Assist in the development of programs that will increase persistence rates of undergraduate students while enhancing graduation rates. Provide advising through, but not limited to, the official degree evaluation program of study, and academic road maps.
Requires exceptional customer service skills, self-motivation, and excellent interpersonal skills. Requires excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint. May be required to participate in various College of Computing, Engineering and Construction activities, such as career events, events supporting academic programs within the SoE, and other duties as assigned.
The holder of this position may be responsible for any NCAA and Atlantic Sun Conference bylaws and guidelines that a member of the UNF Athletic Compliance Department provides in addition to all UNF regulations. The individual must also assure that NCAA, Conference and UNF regulations are followed to the best of their knowledge and any violations thereof are reported to UNF Athletic Compliance. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.

Faculty Position Required QualificationsDepartmental Requirements

Preference given to applicants who meet the required qualifications and also possess the following:
Appropriate student advising experience, and/or customer service experience in an educational setting requiring high student or client contact.
Availability to stay until the work is complete and some weekends. Knowledge of basic advising techniques, knowledge of College/university environment; ability to analyze and interpret data/information. Demonstrate ability to speak in public and deliver quality customer service in an academic environment.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that your responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make you someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSAs responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session.
