Serve as the onsite preceptor for 12-15 senior level nursing students during their offsite clinical rotation at Wake/Brenners.
Knowledge of the course objectives, student and preceptor expectations as outlined in the WCU NSG 411 and NSG 413 Preceptor Manual.
Be onsite at Wake/Brenners during the 6 (12hr) shifts that WCU nursing students are rotating through nursing units; student schedules will be coordinated by WCU faculty.
Meet with students on each unit at the start of the shift: ensure they are assigned a nurse preceptor for the shift; make adjustments to any assignments at the beginning of the shift.
Make rounds to the nursing units to observe students at least 2-3 times during the 12 hour shift.
Handle any student or hospital staff issues related to student assignments, performance or behavior during the student rotations.
Complete one onsite evaluation of each student as provided by the course faculty.
Communicate any student performance or behavior with WCU course faculty on call during the student rotations.
Participate in one virtual meeting with course faculty (and students) prior to the start of the clinical rotations.
Participate in one virtual meeting with course faculty at the conclusion of the clinical rotations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

Clinical Nursing instructor will have a strong knowledge, skills, and abilities of implementing advanced nursing clinical skills in acute care nursing.

Minimum Qualifications

NC License to practice
BSN degree

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred applicants will have one year’s experience as serving as a clinical nursing preceptor for new nursing staff and students in the hospital.
