DEAN OF THE HARIRI SCHOOL OF NURSING

The American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean, Hariri School of Nursing (HSON).  Established in 1905, HSON is a leading nursing school in Lebanon and the region and is recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in education, research, and service. It is one of AUB’s seven faculties and schools, and houses two divisions – Undergraduate & Graduate Studies that consist of Master in Nursing and PhD in Nursing Studies. The HSON BSN and MSN programs are the first outside the US to receive unconditional accreditation in 2007 and reaccreditation in 2012 by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The school offers 4 tracks in the MSN program (Administration and Management, Community and Public Health, Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist). The school has launched recently a PhD program in Nursing Studies in fall 2018-2019. Reporting to the provost, the dean is the responsible academic and executive head of the school and is a member of AUB’s administrative team. The dean is responsible for setting the school strategic direction; ensuring ongoing support of high quality teaching and research; identifying and fostering areas of excellence; and strengthening ties with other distinguished local, regional, and international academic and professional institutions.

Candidates must qualify for appointment to the rank of full professor in nursing and must have an extensive experience in research and administration responsibilities with leadership skills fulfilling the mission and vision of HSON. Candidates must have a distinguished record of accomplishment as scholars; capacity to advance the school’s academic mission and interests within and outside the university; a demonstrated commitment to recruiting and retaining high quality faculty and students; and the capacity to engage with multiple constituencies including students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The University, which was granted institutional accreditation in June 2004 by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States and reaffirmed in June 2009, includes six faculties: Agricultural and Food Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Health Sciences, Medicine (which includes the Rafic Hariri School of Nursing), and the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business.

AUB currently offers more than 120 programs leading to the bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The University became coeducational in 1922; its student body is 50 percent male and 50 percent female. The language of instruction is English (except for courses in the Arabic Department and other language courses). The student faculty ratio is 13 to 1.
