Scope of Job:
The University Of Texas Rio Grande Valley School Of Medicine seeks a Neurologist. In addition, they will participate in scholarly activity, faculty development, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, prepare and provide didactics, participate in the evaluation of the residents and medical students, develop programs and preparation for CLER and RRC site visits. While previous experience in a residency program teaching role is preferred, individuals just finishing residency/fellowship training are highly encouraged to apply.

Faculty are expected to administer and maintain a professional educational environment conducive to educating residents in each of the ACGME competencies and in assisting them to reach their individual Milestones, plus educating medical students in the practice of Psychiatry.

Working within the UT Health RGV clinical mission, the Department has outstanding educational and scholarly activities for medical students and a growing Neurology program. Demonstration of strong commitment to the education of residents and medical students is essential. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to a less than 1.0 FTE.

Minimum Qualifications:
• M.D. or equivalent degree;
• Licensed or license eligible in the State of Texas;
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
