Job description

Illinois State University, located in Normal, Illinois, is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Finance, Insurance and Law. The anticipated start date for the 12-month appointment is July 1, 2020.  Required qualifications include: 1) an earned doctorate in Finance or a closely related field from an accredited university; 2) eligibility for tenure and appointment at the associate professor rank or higher; 3) a record of successful teaching, university service, and significant intellectual contributions; 4) familiarity with AACSB accreditation standards and processes; and, 5) for teaching positions, state law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position. The key responsibilities include working effectively with university and external constituents, friend and fund raising, recruiting, budgeting, strategic planning, and negotiating to maintain and expand the department’s potential in a shared governance environment.

The Department of Finance, Insurance and Law is one of four departments (along with Accounting, Management & Quantitative Methods, and Marketing) in the College of Business at Illinois State University.  AACSB International accredits the College in both Accounting and Business.  In 2017-2018, the college enrolled approximately 3,850 undergraduates and 200 master’s degree students.  The Department of Finance, Insurance and Law has 22 faculty members, offers a major in Finance and a major in Risk Management and Insurance, and has a combined 780 undergraduate majors.  There is also a growing Financial Planning degree program with industry outreach fostered by the Institute for Financial Planning and Analysis, which is also housed within the department. The department works closely with the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management, which facilitates industry outreach and provides support for the risk management and insurance curriculum.
