Position Description

The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, position in the area of philosophy of science, with a focus on biology, chemistry, environment or technology.

AOS: Philosophy of biology, chemistry, environment, or technology.

AOC: Open.

The Philosophy Department at the University of South Carolina prides itself in supporting and facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations. Members of the department currently work regularly with scientists, engineers, clinicians, and policy makers. The University of South Carolina is home to the Ann Johnson Institute for Science, Technology, and Society (AJI for STS). AJI is an endowed Institute whose mission is to build STS friendships and academic communities among those with historical, philosophical, scientific, medical and engineering approaches. The successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to the AJI’s activities.

The position will remain open until filled, and the search committee will begin reviewing applications on November 1, 2019. Candidates should expect to be available for interviews over Skype in late November and December.

Required Education and Experience

Candidates must have Ph.D. in Philosophy in hand on or before August 15, 2020.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise with interdisciplinary research, academic qualification in the respective STEM field, and the ability to teach a diverse group of undergraduates.
